This recipe is a mash up of all my favorite foods in one… well, not all of them because a scoop of ice cream would have been a weird addition here, but close!
This pizza burger mashup is, like all my recipes, is totally customizable. Sub out whatever patty you want! Try it with a portobello mushroom, turkey burger, or even and eggplant parmigiana cutlet. As for the toppings, go wild with whatever “pizza toppings” you like, except not pineapple because that’s gross.
If you are like me and you like to dip your pizza in ranch, it would behoove you to add a couple tablespoons on the top bun for a little extra tang!
Pizza Burgers
Makes 4 burgers
Ingredients
- 2 cloves garlic
- 2.5 tbsp butter or margarine
- 4 buns
- 4 Italian Veggie burgers
- 3/4 cup marinara sauce
- 8 slices mozzarella cheese
- 8 tomato slices
- 8-12 basil leaves
- 1 cup arugula
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Any of your favorite pizza toppings ( I recommend sautéed mushrooms, artichoke hearts and black olives)
Instructions
-
- Mix butter and garlic well, spread 1 tsp on each side of the all 4 buns.
- Heat a large pan with oil over medium-high heat and add your veggie burgers. Cook 2 minutes flip, add 3 tbsp marinara sauce on top of each patty then top with 2 slices of cheese and cover the pan. Cook 2-3 minutes until the cheese melts.
- Heat a second large pan over medium heat and place each bun on the pan butter side down, cook for 2-3 minutes until golden brown.
- Assembled the burgers by placing the patty, 2 tomatoes slices, 2-3 basil leaves, and 1/4 cup arugula, salt and pepper, and your “pizza toppings” of choice between each burger bun.
Tips:
- Tip, to help melt the cheese CAREFULLY put a small amount of water in the pan before covering
- If you typically dip your pizza in ranch dressing, add 1-2 tbsp on the top bun of your burger!
